Almost every day we step into our club house, push open the massive entrance doors and wonder what will happen today. No two days are the same, and we embrace that. For the most part, these unforeseen encounters are at the core of our work: Encounters and relationships with people of all ages and walks of life.

What you might not see from the outside is how many hours we invest in relationships with all of the people around us, even if it's not within a defined offer or project. Big and small stories and encounters that happen between people, and can't be neatly summarised into an end-of-year review. Prayers and contacts that happen because of our faith in God and people, and because we try our best to live out our faith in charity. That's what thrills us about our work.

Melanie Ineichen

Social deacon, 40%

Since the first grade, I've been closely involved with the YMCA/YWCA. My last internship for my education as a Social Deacon / Community Animation Worker was with the YMCA/YWCA Zurich, and I liked it here so much that I decided to stay longer-term. Today, my duties include coordinating our recurring events. I love working together with our volunteers, and the day-to-day life at the YMCA/YWCA Zurich, where there's something new happening every day.

Julia Möckli
Assistant manager and coordinator of Armenia partnership,  40%

In the middle of the hectic center of Zurich, we want to create an oasis where people can be accepted for who they are.

In Armenia, where we've had a partner YMCA for the past 15 years, they say that every guest is a gift from God. This is my conviction as well, and I always find it fascinating to see what people God sends to our house.

Martina Klee
Administrative manager of Gloggespiel, 20%

We don't just want to create a fun space for children to play and have a good time - we want to invest in parents as well. We want our actions to show people the love of God. I couldn't do my job without His love and wisdom.

Martin Wiget
Finance, 10%

I've known the YMCA for a long time, and I'm glad to support their meaningful work today.

Paraphrasing a sentence by Socrates, with which I can identify: "Always remember that everything will pass. Therefore, do not be too joyful in joy, and not too sad in suffering."

Tasha Lory
Administration, 10%

I've known the YMCA ever since I was a girl in Scouting, and I have many fond memories of that time. I love getting to see a different side of the YMCA's diverse work in the YMCA/YWCA Zurich, and being able to support them with my time.

Raoul Hottinger

Volunteer coordination and support, 60%

I love to work with people. I find it fascinating to hear news from all around the world, from different sources and to compare them. I also enjoy hiking and riding my bicycle.

Walking with Jesus for me means learning to let go of my caution and encounter people openly. It would be my pleasure to meet you

Hannah Elvstroem-Vieth
EVS-Volunteer, 100%

I have gained much experience as EVS intern by Cevi-Zürich. Here I not only got the chance to improve my German, but also learn a lot about Switzerland and myself. I am also thankful that it, in spite of corona, was possible for me to have an interesting and challenging sabbatical year.

Marei Krug

Intern, 100%

I've known the YMCA/YWCA through Scouting since I was little. Through my internship at the YMCA/YWCA, I'm looking forward to getting to know different facets of the YMCA/YWCA's diverse work, and getting to know lots of new people with their personalities and stories.

Arturo Aeschbacher

Stefan Reusser

Continuing education intern from Zurich University of  Applied Sciences, 100%

As a leader of the YMCA/YWCA group in Altstetten-Albisrieden, the YMCA/YWCA has been and is still an important part of my everyday life. Through my studies in the field of social work, I'm looking forward to getting to know the YMCA/YWCA professionally, as well. I'm so excited to be able to support the YMCA/YWCA in this new way.
