Office

The staff of the YMCA/YWCA Zurich is made up of the general managers Adrian Künsch-Wälchli & Anja Renz, 6 other employees filling around 4 full-time-equivalent positions, as well as interns from abroad or through JobPlus, the city of Zurich's employment aid agency. Apart from this, we are supported by around 250 volunteers.

Adrian Künsch-Wälchli
Co-General manager, 70%

Almost every day, I step into our club house, push open the massive entrance doors and wonder what will happen today. No two days are the same, and I embrace that. For the most part, these unforeseen encounters are at the core of our work: Encounters and relationships with people of all ages and walks of life.

What you might not see from the outside is how many hours we invest in relationships with all of the people around us, even if it's not within a defined offer or project. Big and small stories and encounters that happen between people, and can't be neatly summarised into an end-of-year review. Prayers and contacts that happen because of our faith in God and people, and because we try our best to live out our faith in charity. That's what thrills me about our work.

Anja Renz
Co-General Manager, 70 %

Since the beginning of May 2022, Anja has succeeeded Andrea Künsch-Wälchli as co-general manager alongside Adrian. She will introduce herself shortly...

Goodbye, Andrea Künsch-Wälchli!
A big thank-you to Andrea for her long-running commitment to the YMCA/YWCA Zurich. She has shaped our work through the course of the last decade and realised many important projects -- without her, the YMCA/YWCA Zurich wouldn't be what it is today! Now, she is moving on to new challenges. Thank you Andrea!

Secretary, 90 %

As the mom of a young YMCA/YWCA member, this organisation's work has fascinated me for a long time. In my current role, I especially love its broad variety.

Besides working in the office, I enjoy my shifts at the concept space, as well as at the Gloggespiel daycare. This gives me the opportuntiy to build relationships with many different people.

I'm thankful for the trust I'm allowed to experience daily, and looking forward to everything that's still in store.

Julia Möckli
Assistant manager and coordinator of Armenia partnership,  40%

In the middle of the hectic center of Zurich, we want to create an oasis where people can be accepted for who they are.

In Armenia, where we've had a partner YMCA for the past 15 years, they say that every guest is a gift from God. This is my conviction as well, and I always find it fascinating to see what people God sends to our house.

Martina Klee
Administrative manager of Gloggespiel, 30%

We don't just want to create a fun space for children to play and have a good time - we want to invest in parents as well. We want our actions to show people the love of God. I couldn't do my job without His love and wisdom.

Viviana Gisler
Intern, 100%

I've been an active member of the YMCA for over 10 years -- and now it's my job, too! The YMCA is an essential part of my life, and has been for so long that I can't remember any different. At age 4, my father dropped my off with the youngest Scouting group for the first time, and that changed my life. I've been Scouting for 14 years, first as a participant, then as a leader -- and then I applied as an intern at the YMCA/YWCA Zurich and was accepted. Now, I work in all different places in the house -- you might run into me at the Gloggespiel daycare, in the café, helping with housekeeping, or chatting and laughing with other people.

Raoul Hottinger

Volunteer coordination and support, 60%

I love to work with people. I find it fascinating to hear news from all around the world, from different sources and to compare them. I also enjoy hiking and riding my bicycle.

Walking with Jesus for me means learning to let go of my caution and encounter people openly. It would be my pleasure to meet you.

Lea Engelund Mathiasen
EVS-volunteer, 100 %

YMCA has always been a point of view for me to face the world. It is therefore for me magical and valuable to be a part of creating an environment where everyone who wants, can meet the world from a YMCA perspective too. An environment where everyone is welcome, and everyone has the same values.

Luana Schär
Gloggespiel, 75%
While playing with each other, even the smallest children will learn how to treat others in a group. It's inspiring to see children interacting with each other so naturally, and to accompany them a little way on their journey of growing up.

"We believe God can do great things, we believe people can do great things, and we believe we can do great things" (Motto of the YMCA/YWCA) -- this describes exactly what I want to live out in my day-to-day dealings with people young and old -- always keeping in mind to have confidence in people's abilities, and support them where needed.
